So I have a lot of weird ideas, many of which never come to fruition for many various reasons. Currently, I was thinking of the benefits of portrait mode vs. landscape mode, for most everything outside of gaming/HTPC stuff. And I was thinking it might be cheaper/easier to come by 3 or 4 smaller monitors, that when combined in portrait mode, are as large or larger than a decent sized TV, and present an overall better resolution. So I got out some calculators and tried to figure out the minimum height and width desired for this setup. I decided I wanted the equivalent of a 43" 16:9 tv as the minimum. Rough measurements would be 21" x 38". So which monitors are 21" wide, giving me that height in portrait mode? 24" seems to do the trick, at 11.75 x 21. And 4 wide in portrait mode would be 47.75" x 21" - almost the same as a 53" ultrawide. Assuming I could find 4 with thin enough bezels, or remove the bezels and reframe myself, I would have 4320 x 1920 resolution on a slightly wider than normal 43" screen. Not quite the same as 4k/UHD, but similar. Sounds great to me! And I can find some refurbished 24" widescreen monitors in the $30 - $50 range, making it about $160 for the displays. About half to a quarter what a 43" 4k TV would run me. How stupid does this sound? Should I even bother thinking more on it, and how to accomplish it? |

The one problem with his setup is that you will have a bezel in the center of your screens. So all FPS Games or others that use a crosshair will be really annoying. If this wont bother you.... Okay. And you'd need an AMD GPU to run 4x1P I think. |

If I recall, standard Eyefinity does not support 4x1p however does 5x1p. 4x1P would be supported with the AMD FirePro cards which support a greater selection of eyefinity configurations over the consumer eyefinity found on the non FirePro cards. |
