I currently have 2 8800gts 640mb. I am thinking of buying a MSI N465GTX Twin Frozr II . Would I get better performance from a single MSI N465GTX Twin Frozr II then my dual 8800gts in sli. Or should I just wait and buy 2 MSI N465GTX Twin Frozr II and put those in SLI. I want to later on have 3 in tri SLI but later down the road when I can buy a PCIe sound card.

I wouldn't get the GTX465, the GTX460 and GTX470 are massively discounted atm so your get much better value for money, and the GTX460 also runs cooler and is more power efficient then both the others.

As for the question, one GTX460 will easily outpace 2 8800gts 640.

So far my 3d mark vantage gives me a score of 13640. I was wondering how much higher of a score with one EVGA - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 would I have over what I have now.

Really you should be looking for Frames Per Second comparisons on games you would normally play at the resolution you would normally play them at, however for sake of argument, here's 3DMarks06 comparisons of NVidia cards.
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/2010-gaming-graphics-charts-high-quality/3DMark06-v1.1.0,Marque_fbrandx876,2484.html

And here is the sum of all fps benchmarks (all cards).

And here is the list of benchmarks.

I just looked at those my dual 8800gts 640s scored 18150 3DMarks. Compared to a 260 or close to a 280 at 19092. So one 470 would at least be comparable to my 8800gts if not better.

Well I choose the pny performance edition 470. I had to bounce a check hopefully my bank will cover it. If they don’t I will pay for it on the next paycheck. My other cards were dyeing due to age and a failure by me in keeping the thermal pads when I put on new heat paste LOL. Thank all of you for your help. Definatly is a better choice then the 465 edition.

One more thing I was wondering if 83 degrees is a normal temp for a GTX 470. I am hoping after the past cures if it hasnt already that will drop.

Doesn't sound bad if that is a load temperature. On air cooling my X1900 hits 95*C easily with default fan speeds (thank god for water cooling)

Yeah, unfortunately those sorts of temps are entirely usual with the GF100 based cards and stock coolers. :(

I'm even less impressed that those sort of temps are still reached with the fans up far enough to be very intrusive...
