I just upgraded from 5870 CF to cool new 7970 Ghz.. yaY!

..but get tearing everywhere. booo!

DP>active>DVI, DVI, DVI.

Games or desktop like browser. (what? I never heard of that!) Videos, movies and whatnot. (FS or window)
Currently, as I type this, is #1(left) but clean on 2 & 3. Earlier was on 2 & 3..!
If it stays on 1(DP) I'd be happy enough. But usualy its front and center and on the right. Like that the new Bioshock is unplayable with a 1/4inch tear in front of my nose!

Tried everything, unistalls/re-installs (ccc13.1).. everything but beta drivers.

Only other thing new is one of the wee DP>active>DVI adapters. Way cool much faster display changes. ..and a Xonar DSX after the fact, almost a week after.

You guys got some kind of a tip I can byte on? puh-leease!

When using AMD gpu's and connecting them via different connections, it is possible to get tearing. Make sure your center monitor is connected via DVI and make that your primary monitor. This way you might only get tearing on the one connected via the DP adapter. If you really bothered by tearing, then I would suggest returning the 7970 and buying a 670. I have not yet encountered tearing in Surround using a 680 or Titan. My 6950 and 7950 in Eyefinity did have tearing issues though.

I too found this out after installing my 7970 :(
It's a known issue when using different connectors (2 dvi 1 dp in this case, same as mine) that you get tearing on one screen..
If I knew this before ordering I would've gotten a card with 4 DP instead but hey.. for now I've switched cables around and made my middle screen the primary so tearing is only on one of the secondary screens which doesn't interrupt gaming that much (for me).
It's really stupid that they put 2 of each connectors on the card and then chant about how it supports eyefinity :/

Will probably buy another 7970 or a 7990 later for crossfire when drivers are better and chose a card with better outputs

((Note I tried a few times yesterday to post this, got an error. Thankfuly "previous" page still had data))

Thanx guys..

After reading replies on AMD forums and here I tried some things.

Best suggestion was HDMI audio redirection and with 3 screens we got a butt load. Dissabled them ALL.

Now tearing only on DP output. I seem to recal having that a bit on my CF 5870's, figured it was related to DP or adapter or combination there of.

The new smaller active adapter seems to be alot better at screen res' changes, waAay faster, and no USB power connection required. Much smaller, I highly recommend them. (they seem to be all the same w/differant tags) (Accell A4-3.0)

*Note; some info I had posted else where here, a tweek realy.

I setup my 3 displays in a default layout to match what CCC showed. As in "no re-arrangement required" in the control panels. And this follows, as I suspected, ATI's "TV out on the left" default ..for the DP port and mirroring the Main out.

The reason; Simple. Nothing has to do "extra work" to re-arrange the output to the displays. *Something* is faster. How much. Dunno. Maybe just a pointer and offset that need to be set anyway = nothing. Which would only be me as something faster. But ZERO change required when switching from CF 5870's to 7970 Ghz.

So far; 3 screens tearing everywhere; disable HDMI audio completely; DP screen tearing only on Desktop.
Edit; Update, still got tearing in games.

Some relief. Just need to sort out hum/noise coming from somewhere. grrr.. had it on integrated audio, started a little while ago, but still pessent with Asus Xonar. Odd. Going to try Optical port shortly.

Some testing to do, post back after.
..anyway, Thanx again.

I had noise like that due to one of my monitor power connectors been slightly out and not making the earth connection. Just a suggestion

Tearing currently;
Nuked, obliterated and disabled all HDMI audio.Updated to ccc13.4. Tearing confined to DP on desktop, everywhere in games.

Noise, mostly due to miss-adjusted volumes. Amp up, computer down = noise loud. Reversed is better but is still present. The noise goes up/down in fequncy when zooming or jumps a bit w/load. I believe I had a wee hair of it before with CF 5870's. Tiny wisper noticed on ocasion. Rarely.
New vid' + new sound card + mis-adjusted volumes = \/\/a/\/\..! In yer face. (ears!) 8-(

Edit; oops, fergot to mention.. All connectors re-seated, again and tight, part of debugging tearining too. (Have extra cable. (Plug/plug/swap/test loop, 3x)

grrr..

I have posted my final notes else where and should have been here too.

From AMD's message base where I had post this problem as well.

Somebody posted a link to one of AMD's "KB" notes..
The final upshot? DVI and DP don't sync. Period.
So, reasonable setup; DVI center and default, and DVI right, and DP left. Only DP will tear. <sigh>

Audio; mostly miss-adjusted volumes, but switched to optical cable and all seems great.

The Asus audio cards realy suk rox. For 2.1 prolly ok. (I don't care, never would use it). Seems to be good chipset but very bad driver progaming. Very bad.

-You- have to switch audio styles before hand. -It- will not do it.
Music, set 2 channel mode.
Movies, set 6 channel or 8 channel mode
games set GX mode and number of channels supported or...
Set game to max channels like 7.1 ..sound card will "mix" to 5.1 output. Amazing realy. Sounds incredable!

That is the only reason I still have this card. The rest is pure wasted money type crappola.
(there is even 3rd party drivers because of the crap drivers, which I did not try as they still have some ways to go, too much work to be done "by hand")

Even changed my "sig' to not mention/promote the card card.. Un-freekin-believable product.
