The Evil Within just came out today. The game natively runs in a 2.35:1 ratio.

Bethsoft posted the debug console commands to make the game run in 16:9 for people, but it just zooms the game in..
http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/150864 ... -commands/

I was wondering if we can do our magic, because even on a 21:9 monitor you get black bars on the sides and top and bottom.

And maybe with our fix we might be able to get a better fix for those 16:9 people so they don't have a HOR- game.

Yeah help with this would be great, I've been tinkering with the console commands for ages with no luck tried stuff like this:

r_initialAspectRatio
r_letterBoxedHeight
r_letterBoxedWidth
r_customHeight
r_customWidth
r_mode -1

the game seems to recognize the commands but nothing tends to happen with them.

I recall reading a FAQ that claimed PC folks would be able to use "other" aspect ratios. Then i just went poking around and found this:

http://www.gamerheadlines.com/2014/10/t ... mmands-pc/

Looks like we can also unlock the framerate, but most people report stuttering. Waiting for it to install, so I'll report back. Fingers crossed.

EDIT -- Well, odd things I hope they patch:

I wasn't able to get the console enabled in my Launch options, but editing \Users\[username]\Saved Games\TangoGameworks\The Evil Within\base\the evil withinConfig.cfg seemed to work. Although the next time I opened it, my inserted lines were removed, yet they still seemed to take affect. I also do experience a bit of very fast stutter in my framerate. Barely noticeable during play, but it shows in the framerate records.

The game detected my Eyefintiy resolution just fine, but the game still runs only on the centre display in letterbox, at 22fps. Settings resolution at 1920x1200 gives me 48fps, but looks exactly the same. I was at least hoping to get the 2.35:1 screen to spread nicely across my 3 displays, resulting in pillarboxing. No such luck. I obviously don;t mind wide gameplay, but playing 2.25;1 on a 16:10 display is pretty shitty. I think I may shelve this until a better solution comes along, or see if my HTPC can handle it. At least it'll look better on a 55" 16:9 screen. Or maybe this'll be reason enough for me to dig out my 30' DVI cable.

Graphics options are present, but the impact on FPS is miniscule. It appears to use both my 7970's, but it sure runs poorly.

All in all, a pretty lousy port.

Just wanted to add my time with the game I play on 5760x1080 3 screen. The game has the worst FOV I have ever ran into(probably), the command for unlocking frame rate have no effect does nothing, you can get rid of the black bars but you do not get more game area it just zooms it in.

I have bad motion sickness on bad FOV am cursed I can barley play the game for more than 10 mins before I get brutaly sick :(

The graphics and gameplay are cool and very nice for RE fans but the current state it has no multi screen support lft and rht screens are black and the aspect ratio and FOV are probably the worst of the year.

I think it is safe to say we need our crew to fix this one I hope it is not that bad is Tech 5 engine that Rage and Wolfenstein is on and our guys know it so here is hoping ti si not brutal to fix.

Shame game has potential.

Still very much a work in progress... has already consumed a significant chunk of time.

Fixed so far:

- Correct Aspect Ratio
- Remove Letterbox
- Maintain Movies at correct Aspect
- Correct black screen overlay
- Correct HUD Aspect
- FOV correction (vert- after removing letterbox)
- Bloom (too bright) corrected.

To do:

- Loading screen
- Improve the FOV fix as it jerks sometimes between scenes or transitions.
- Try and stop the player being shifted too far left or right of center.
