I'm interested in playing the game but curious about widescreen support, controller support, and performance. Anyone have the skinny on any of that?

Here's some interesting info I found. It's part of an interview concerning the Mac version of stubbs, but it reveals some interesting bits. Also of note is the developer's (or in this case Glenda Adams of Aspyr Entertainment) philosophy about widescreen support, i.e. as an post release patch rather than ground up type of thing.

Question:

Many Mac gamers seem to have become conditioned to lower framerates and consider ~20 f/s playable; fillrate is fillrate, but PC gamers often have more powerful hardware available and to be aggressive upgraders. Even if not available in menu, will there be any way to force Stubbs to run higher resolutions, perhaps via .ini hack or at the command line? Any support for widescreen modes, greater or lesser? (That seemed to be passed over in Part I, and of course Stubbs, supporting 480p on Xbox, is an inherently widescreen game. I've read explicit pleas for the 1920x1200 native to the medium-large LCDs becoming increasingly common- not that anyone expects Stubbs to have menu-selectable 2560x1600).


Answer:

Glenda: We're going with the standard aspect ratios and medium range resolutions to start, but we certainly will be looking at adding wide screen and high res support to our post-ship plans. We have a lot of things (including co-op) we'd like to put into updates after we ship, so Stubbs PC/Mac will definitely not be a game that is released and forgotten. It's one of the pressures of shipping as close to the Xbox as we can- we could hold off another month and really add some extra features and tweak things a bit more, but right now we really just want to get a good, stable, and fun game out to end users first. Then we can go back and add some neat extras. We've even got a few extra technology features on our post ship 'to do' list.

Thanks for the info and apparently I jumped the gun thinking it came out on the 15th but best I can tell no one has it yet.

It sure looks like an interesting game, and would be great if widescreen was supported out of the box. Is this going to be a simultaneous console/pc release?

Stubbs has widescreen support, or at least I was able to choose 1440*900 resolution from the game's menu. Dunno for higher res though.

Just bought it today and installed it on my Dell 9300 Laptop. It runs very well.

My laptop has a Intel M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB) , 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (533) with one of them 256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 graphics cards. Like I said it runs smooth as silk with the settings all on high including shadows. Dec was right the widescreen reso I was able to select was 1440x900. No 1920x1200 res option.

Anyway, I took a screenshot and here it is. Forgive me because I had to lower the quality of the jpeg so my host would allow the pic size.


Note the grainy look of the game itself. Thats how it looks and I think its awesome. It has that old film look.

I haven't gotten very far in the game but I'm having a blast.

So far its mindless endless eating of brains. As you progress you get more ways to kill. You start out basically with the 'Eating Brains' and converting people into zombies, a flatulence button to 'stun' people so you can eat their brains. You can call your zombie buddys to follow you around so you can eat brains with them too.

I'm at a point where Stubbs is trying to find this girl that he's obsessed with. Will report later.

Hi funch ...

Please could you rescue the size of the screenshots you are posting ...
Large screenshots make it a pain to read the threads ... you have to scroll left and right to read the posts. It's the same with 'long links'. :)

Here's an example of how to post screenshots ... and my resolution findings regarding the game ...

The game has one widescreen res ... for me ... 1600x900
The 4x3 gives more vertical FOV so I play 1600x1200 ... it doesn't look so bad stretched as the game has that "old film reel" look that hides the fact that it is stretched.

That isn't stretched it is cropped, just like Halo without the FOV hack which makes sense seeing as how they use the same engine.
