You need to take two screenshots from the exact same place, one in 4:3, the other in widescreen. Then compare them. Here are two articles you should look at:

Ok, it appears that it is just stretching the screen, not updating the FOV.

Now, I'm having trouble getting the FOV edit right. First, I follow the instructions, but it's not allowing me to extract the single file. Do I need to use a different program from the Windows one? Second, I tried extracting all, then replacing the file in the renamed zip file. Then, when I try to rename it to .pak, it's still a zip file. How do I change it back to a .pak file?

i wish we could split this thread and post only the info that's relevant and helpful to other viewers. This keeps bumping an old game to the top of the list. :?

I just installed Far Cry again...and added Far Cry AMD 64 Exclusive Content Update Patch...And damn..Its hard to believe that this game is from 2004-2005...I still looks awesome...

Well anyway...I checked out this site for a resolution solution for my widescreen monitor..Cause I wanna run the game in proper resolution in 1680*1050...But after reading here I must say I am more confused now:-(

Is there a proper solution for 16:10 widescreen at 1680*1050?

Forgive my stupidity, but how do you change scripts.pak.zip back into scripts.pak?

Forgive me, but this has to be one of the most confusing write-ups ever.

You need to go into more detail about what you are doing with the scpripts folder.

1. You say to make a backup, and then don't mention whether you should be editing the backup file, or the scripts file in the FC installation folder.

2. There's no easy way to "rename a zip back to a PAK file". You need to do more steps than that. I'm going to try and figure this out and post a revision soon.

Thanks.

Edit: If anyone wants to help out with this. I can't seem to get it to work after almost 1.5 hours. So I'm most likely giving up...

I can't seem to get the scripts folder to change from a .zip back into a .pak properly.

*sigh*

Here is what you should do ...

1. In ..Far CryFCData folder copy the Scripts.pak file

2. In ..Far CryFCData folder rename the copied Scripts.pak to a .rar file.

3. Within copied scripts.rar navigate to ..DefaultHud and located a file named ZoomView.lua

4. Extracted this file, remove it's read-only attribute and modified the line: NoZoom = 90 * 3.1415962 / 180, to: NoZoom = 108 * 3.1415962 / 180,
Replace the bold bit with your desired FOV value (up to 179).

5. Saved just the ZoomView.lua file ... and put it into a folder with this directory structure ... you will need to create it ...
C:Program FilesUbisoftCrytekFar CryScriptsDefaultHud

6. Make it a read only file again.

7. Leave the original .pak file the way it was ...

8. Delete the copied Scripts.pak which you renamed to .rar

9. Now when you enter the game you will have to zoom in once and when you come out of the zoom, the FOV should be set the the above value.

Let me know if that works for you ... 8)

No dice.

I can get it to work using devmode, but that only lasts until you zoom, or use binos or sniper, get out of a jeep, etc. So it's not a viable option. This is really crazy that it doesn't work. Could it be the result of Doc's worthless 1.4 patch? Maybe I'll install another copy and only patch to 1.33 and see what happens.

Hmm. That's a hell of a lot more work than the ".ini" MGL entry would indicate. Unless there's a simpler way to do it (aside from acquiring pre-modified files or third party utilities), I'm going to have to reclassify this solution as a "hack," which would bring the grade down to a D+.
