I just sat and thought about this for a second and had a bunch of flash backs to all the racing games I ever really liked.

This is what came to mind:

Rock N' Roll Racing on SNES
Wipeout on Playstation
Wipeout XL on PS2
Ridge Racer on Playstation
Gran Turismo on Playstation
Need for Speed Most Wanted PC

Of those games each one had somthing to offer, of all of them tho the one I think I liked best now that I think about it was wipeout XL, and its graphics type could be awsome on a PC running a nice widescreen monitor... also the soundtrack is totally awsome.

Rock n' roll racing was just badass esp for its time.

Wipeout was what started it all on the wipout series but XL was much better (played some of the sequals and didnt like them)

Ridge Racer was a classic, and I loved the challenge to get the black car.

Gran Turismo was a classic and started a big series.

NFSMW was a good game, but i got bored of it pretty fast.

Cross racing 2005 is ok I guess. TrackIR support and H-shifter support and nice graphics.

LFS it´s not for everyone. It has the worst sound I have ever heard in any racing game sim or arcade it makes it hard to focus on the rest. Not much sense of speed either.

As for rFactor 1979 is out now and boy does it rock. There is also several other mods now that is really good.

GTR 2 I still race and it´s solid. Though the cars are behaving to well really but there is always the nap mod :).

Otherwise Test Drive Unlimited will be interesting for sure :)

I liked the demo of Rallisport Challenge but that's even older than some other suggestions. Sadly the second one only stayed on the Xbox.

Not sure about wide screen options either, never got the full game...
