I had success on Vista 64 by rolling back to 178.13, setting up my resolutions, and then putting in the drivers I want. All the drivers after 178 caused that "custom resolution test failed" on success, but this one did not. Going forward, it seems to keep the resolutions on every update so far.

Of course, I'm not using a GTX 200 series, but I will be getting a GTX 295 soon, so I will post should I have problems. If you ever feel like trying again, that might help...

Yeah I can get it working on older drivers but you get a huge performance hit, especially in SLI, because the drivers aren't upto date. Also those older drivers won't include your new GPU, mores the pity. So I will stick with XP because I have latest drivers and 5040 without any probs :)

Ug, talk about the most confusing file hosting download site ever. That download link is a pain to find there.

Got HL2 Ep2 loaded, and it benched at the same level as XP. Ran my Crysis Warhead demos and got about the same in Medium, and it dropped a few frames on High. It's not as bas as I thought, but I still don't see Vista adding anything. I'm sure DX10 is great in the right place and game, but I don't see it being a must have. I'd rather have 5040x1050. And, Vista isn't doing anything with the extra RAM it can see. Maybe Win7 will be better.

Ran Far Cry 2. At the "Optimal" settings of my first testing, I went from 33fps to 46.8fps. At Ultra, I got 44.8fps. Looks like the Dunia engine is taking advantage of the 64-bit and 6GB of RAM.

That is a big difference! I have no probs playing 5040 at full settings with SLI GTX280's in XP. But in Vista 64bit it would mean I could add a bit more AA AF....pity I finished it LOL

I'm still using my Vista 64-Bit with the old 178 drivers. Using SLI * 280's, although I am a bit scared of messing with my setup after it took me ages to get 5040x1050 working in the first place

Heh, I am running the latest drivers, though, lol, that's what I was saying. :)

I use the old drivers to get my resolutions and then upgraded up to the latest. Still haven't lost the resolutions, and I have all the improvements... 8)

I will say that Vista (being 64-bit and recognizing 6GB of RAM) certainly helped Virtual Dub and QuickTime Pro convert video faster. That's about enough reason to switch for me.

Just a friendly request: Does anyone have a copy of that beta file linked in the first post that is hosted somewhere other than a spyware delivery service? That download link is on a site that is very, very polluted. My system won't even let me download the file.

Any mirrors? Thx
