Hi everyone,

I just installed Doom 3 with patch 1.3 and trying to get it to my native LCD res. I have googled the web and it led me here. Problem i am having is it doesnt seem to control Doom 3 res (i have tried 1280x768, 1280x720.. etc... it still starts/plays in 640x480). Here is my Doomconfig file. I have made it read only, but Doom 3 still starts up in 640x480. Ideas?

P4 3.0
6800GS 84.20 driver
3GB ram

seta r_customHeight "768"
seta r_customWidth "1360"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_mode "-1"

seta net_serverDownload "0"
seta r_aspectRatio "1"
seta si_serverURL ""
seta net_clientLagOMeter "1"

(irrelevant doomconfig commands omitted to save space)

I have also tried as other have suggested to start game, scan for display, play game briefly, then re-edit cfg file.. still no dice. Please help, Doom 3 looks like cr-p in 640x480 or 1024x768. My native res is 1366x768 but i run windows in 1360x768. When i unclick "read only" this is what happen to my config file after running the game.....

seta r_customHeight "768"
seta r_customWidth "1360"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_mode "3"

note: mode resets itself to "3" but the res stays the same, however its 640x480 in game..... weird stuff... never seen this before.

Also, a bit off topic. But does anyone know (or can lead me in the direction) to get some advice on using a gamepad controller with Doom 3? Can it be done? I didnt notice any controller support under options in the game.... Thanks again...

Thanks in advance....

Hello ...
I moved your post here ... please try to post in the appropriate section ... :)

Did you run the Auto Detect System Settings (or words to that effect) first ?

I found that my cfg wouldn't save until I ran the "Scan Hardware and Select Optimal Video Quality" in the games video options at least once ...
I briefly played the game at those settings ... and then I was able to change the cfg without it reverting back.

Hope this helps ... :D

PS ... sorry I wouldn't know about the controller ... and I wouldn't dream of using a controller with a FPS ... but each to their own ...

I figured it out. Doom 3 doesnt support 1360x768. It does support 1280x720 (or 768). So thats what im using. The reason i had the first problem with 1280x720 is because i had them reversed... .ooops... lol

Yes, i ran the scan many times, and my windows is in 1360x768. I have a 6800GS.

Thanks for the replys!

My apologies for posting in the wrong forum initially.

As far as controller with FPS, my gaming pc is a HTPC on a 37" LCD HDTV screen, so im on my couch when i play. Kinda hard to do with a keyboard and mouse... besides, playing with a controller just seems more natural to me than playing with keyboard and mouse. Im not too hardcore as far as multiplayer so i dont mind not having the fastest "draw", but i definitely can hold my own on multiplayer maps with the controller!...

Is there any chance your native resolution is actually 1366 by 768?

Yes, it is 1366, but the only way to grab that resolution (that i know of) is through powerstrip. My card, 6800GS, does allow custom resolutions but will not allow 1366, only 1360x768 and im not really that determined to start tweaking with powerstrip since 1360x768 looks awesome.

This isn't so much a reply as it is an extra call for help. :( I'm having the same problem, though I haven't found a solution. I spent over an hour screwing with it last night to no avail.

I thought I'd re-install the game and play some co-op with a buddy of mine now that I have a really smoking rig. Much to my dismay, the game continues to run in 640x480 no matter what I do to the .cfg file!

I alter the settings for 1440x900, r_mode "-1" and r_aspectRatio "2." Like I said though, I'll run the game and it looks HORRIBLE. The weird thing is that I actually went into the console and you can type in a part of the command to get it to show what the setting is currently at. (ex. r_customHeight...leaving the value blank) and it actually SAYS that I'm at the correct settings. There's no way that it's actually using them though.

By the time I exit the game and go back to the .cfg file, the r_mode is always back at 3 or sometimes higher...I've also seen 5 and 7. It doesn't seem to want to actually use my resolution settings....very frustrating after seeing the potential in the screenshots.

Anyway I'm running with an 8800 GTS, which may be a problem in itself I don't know. When I initially got the card even my desktop was blurry and I had to set a custom timing for the 1440x900 resolution to get it to look right. (I think I got that solution here actually.)

Anybody think they can help me get Doom 3 running at the right resolution??

I don't know of anything to tell you that isn't in the detailed report or the suggestions above... Maybe Doom 3 does not support 1400x900? I run it in 1680x1050 on a 8800GTS, so it works fine on that card.

Go over the steps again, you probably typed something wrong.

I saw a reply in the original thread (the detailed report thread) from a guy that had it running in 1440x900 so I know it works. I think he even had an 8800 GTS too. Seems that I always have bad luck, but I really want to get it working. I'm going to try a total re-installation and then try it again.

Anybody have any other suggestions?
