Co-op Gaming in Eyefinity: Renegade Ops
Welcome to the next of my video blogs where I look at co-op games and how satisfying the experience is in multi-monitor. I love co-op gaming, but not all co-op games play well in multi-monitor. My reviews cover what I needed to do to get the game working in Eyefinity, any issues that I found in the game that relate to it, and how fun I found the whole experience.
This episode reviews the game Renegade Ops.
In case it is helpful, I have provided a text copy of the transcript as well. Enjoy!

Hi everyone and welcome to another episode of my video blog, Co-op Gaming in Eyefinity.
Today's review is on the top-down driving shoot-em-up game called Renegade Ops. This game is a super fast paced shoot-everything-you-see type of game, where the best tactic seems to be circling whatever it is you have been tasked to destroy while holding down the shoot button.
Now for Eyefinity users, the news is excellent - this game supports it natively. The news is not so good for Nvidia Surround users. If you want to run a resolution higher than 4080 pixels wide, you'll need to visit the Widescreen Gaming Forum site for a hex edit solution. Choose the Games dropdown, Search All Games, and then search for Renegade Ops. Click on the search result to open the game's Detailed Report and scroll down to the Surround Specific Solution. Run through the solution provided by Valcan_S and you'll be playing in full resolution on your Nvidia Surround rig in no time.
So onto the game itself. Setting up the game is very easy and reliable, never had a connection issue.
There are 4 characters to choose from, and each have unique special abilities to use in game. Throughout missions you can earn points towards permanent upgrades, 4 of which can be selected at the start of each mission once you unlock them.
The only thing to note about the game in Eyefinity is that the score labels that come up when you earn points are stretched, but this has very little to no impact on the game at all. You're usually too busy shooting stuff to notice.
Pre-rendered cut-scenes are on the centre monitor, while cut-scenes rendered in game are fullscreen. Speaking of cut-scenes, the voice acting is pretty bad and over the top, but the game doesn't take itself too seriously, so I wouldn't either.
There are a couple of driving modes available which changes how you control the car, so be sure to try them both as the default controls were very frustrating for me, but the second controls were good.
You get a primary gun and can collect a secondary weapon such as rockets or flamethrowers. You are able to upgrade both of these as you go along, separate to the character unlocks I mentioned earlier. Die and you will be respawned, but without the weapon upgrades collected in game which you will need to collect again by destroying the bad guys. The character's unique special abilities can make a good difference to the game. In this example I had an EMP blast while my coop partner had an airstrike.
Driving with a friend at high speed is pretty fun using the cars turbo boost, and this often results in some pretty spectacular crashes to have a laugh about. Some missions involve driving into towers and defeating the bad guys inside by pressing Space repeatedly. It sounds lame but the old school Batman-style punching sound effects always bring a smile to my face and there's usually a good explosion afterwards.
Some missions have a helicopter component where you change your car into a chopper and wreak havoc that way.
It's very fun and adds a nice change to the standard driving component of the game.
There is already downloadable content available for this game which I am playing in this video, so combine that with the main storyline missions and attempting them on the harder difficulties, this game should entertain you and friends for a while and give you good value for your cash.
Because of it's reliable connection in online games, great multi-monitor support for Eyefinity, fun gameplay and nice graphics, I scored this game a 9 out of 10. If it had more variety in the missions I would have scored it another half mark higher, but as it is, it's really fun to play and I highly recommend you try it.
Thanks for watching and happy gaming!
