Thanks & Giving, Survey Results
Thanks & Giving
I wanted to thank everyone for their support over the years, and this last year in particular. Believe it or not, the WSGF is entering its 10th year of existence. That's like 120 in Interweb Years, right? We've seen the PC gaming landscape change in a lot of ways, and we are doing our best to continue to serve you our community. This least year or so has been a difficult time of transition for everyone, with the migration of the site architecture and the shifting sands of our financial foundation.
We feel that we are now really on the right track from a site architecture standpoint, and are looking forward to our future. If possible, please consider donating our second and final donation drive. With your help we can go into 2013 strong, and be back self sufficient with our monthly costs.
Survey Results
Thanks to everyone who took part in our site survey. in less than a week we got 250 completed surveys, and have a much better idea of what people want and expect from the WSGF. We did realize that we forgot to ask you a couple of questions, and your answers from the first survey generated a couple more questions. I have posted a quick five question follow-up. If you could take a few moments, we promise this will be quick and worth your time. Even if you didn't participate in the first survey, you can still help with this one. Be sure to check out the results of the first site survey. it is an interesting read.
21:9 Ultrawide Monitor Released
Dell released their 21:9 ultrawide U2913WM monitor. It is a 21:9 aspect ratio panel with a resolution of 2560x1080. The LED IPS panel is home to not only a DP 1.2 input, but also a Mini-DP input, and a DP 1.2 output for daisy chaining. We have one coming, and it will be here on Tuesday. Expect lots of coverage on this new arrival, and testing of how games handle single screen beyond 16:9.
Games Database
Mass Effect 4
Though its a ways from being released, the news that ME4 will be using the Frostbyte engine should be welcome news. Previous entries in to the ME Trilogy have been frustrating for Eyefinity/Surround users, to say the least. With Battlefield 3 and NFS: The Run as examples, the Frostbyte engine has a nice pedigree of supporting multi-monitor users.
Medal of Honor Warfighter
We've had a couple of good entries into the games database. We know that Medal of Honor Warfighter has great Eyefinity and Surround support. The only blemish is a non-centered HUD.
F1 Race Stars
Codemasters on the other hand surprises us with very bad Eyefinity/Surround support. Their new console-centric F1 Race Stars lacks 16:10 support, and only offers 1280x720, 1366x768, 1600x900 and 1920x1080 as playable resolutions. The game did offer native Eyefinity/Surround resolutions, but the game is pillarboxed and suffers from controls that run at 1/3 speed in triple-wide resolutions. All in all, certainly not what we've come to expect.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
We do know that Black Ops 2 doesn't have native Eyefinity/Surround support. However, we don't have good pics of how the game behaves. If you can help with this entry in our crowd-sourced games database, we would be exceptionally grateful.
Hardware Updates
Both NVIDIA and AMD released driver updates targeted at Black Ops 2 players. AMD hit back-to-back and released Beta 8 of their Catalyst driver and CAP profiles.
SoftTH
If you're a fan of the SoftTH option, they you will be interested to know that it may be going open-sourced. Check out that forum thread for details, and to offer assistance for keeping SoftTH alive and adding DX10/11 support.
