Yeah running out of VRAM would cause some nice stuttering.

There is no possible way that I'm running out of VRAM with 3GB. The highest VRAM usage I've seen yet is 1283MB.

Just played the game for about an hour and it appears the 5 second freeze problem has disappeared, I did nothing more to the config files, the only thing I did was restart my computer so I would guess the freezing problem is a CPU thing, if you are having this problem try a restart.

The only problem I am having now (apart from the horrible buggy lock on system) is I cant run with post processing on without getting hit with a massive drop in FPS, again this must be CPU limited as 2 x 6950s should be able to handle this.

At this point I think I am happy enough with it to sit down and finally play this properly in eyefinity glory, I just hope I dont run into any of these game play bugs a lot of people are experiencing that doesn't allow you to progress :s

Thanks Hayden

Ok I am a bit confused on how to get Alice to span... I did the INI file hack and it did not work.

Unfortunately, SLI doesn't work that way. Each card needs the same data in its own local memory in order for SLI to work, which means if card #1 loads in 500MB of data, then card #2 and card #3 load in exactly the same 500MB of data.

In effect, you only have 1GB of usable video RAM, not 3GB. Seeing 1283MB of video RAM usage would mean you've run out of video RAM and are swapping in and out of system RAM

true. every single card has got all the textures in their own video-ram, they can't share/combine the memory.

I've got a 6950 2gb (5760x1080) + i5-760 and get no stuttering with AA. Also I did apply the fps fixes. and Physx is on low (Mafia 2 physx was a real killer for me).

C:UsersUserNameDocumentsMy GamesAlice Madness ReturnsAliceGameConfigAliceEngine.ini

bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE (2x in the file!)
MinSmoothedFrameRate=22 (2x in the file!)
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=60 (2x in the file!)
==> change to read-only

But i would think the stuttering is more due to physx..?

I'm doing ok with a single HD5850 at 5040x1050, haven't tried turning on AA yet.

I've got PhysX turned all the way up and I'm not getting any undue stuttering... but then, I have a GTX260 installed in the slot below my HD5850, acting as a dedicated PhysX card :mrgreen:

Makes a big difference.. when I turn on physics it sometimes drops from a steady 60 to 25 when a lot of physx effects are displayed. (and there are quite a lot of effects in this game that depend on physx)

Question how you configure the nvidia card to be a dedicated physx on a ATI vid system?

:searchplease http://www.google.com/#q=how+to+configure+dedicated+physx+ati ==> http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/508305-howto-ati-nvidia-physx-guide.html

you do need a pretty decent card as illustrated by these benchmarks: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-physx-hack-amd-radeon,2764-8.html

:)

I run with 2 6970's @ 950/1450, on a core i7 970 @ 4.2 Ghz, also have a 450GTX available. and thank you for the links. ok Do I need to have a fourth monitor? or can I disconnect it? All I have is 3 monitors available one of which has 3 different inputs. As far as Alice trying to get it spanned has not been an easy task I may have to reinstall the game and go from there...
