Hi to all of you,

I read some of the reviews of 120Hz monitors - sounds nice. I want to know if the following is possible

I want three monitors AND 120 Hz (NOT for 3D).

- 120 Hz needs DP or DVI-D Dual Link

Will it work? and how shall I connect it?

AMD (e.g. 7870): what connections do I need?
at least 1 DisplayPort
1xDVI-D dual 2xDP or 2 DVI-D + 1DP?

Nvidia (GTX 670)
are there card with 3x DP or 3x DVI-D?

thx for some comments!

In theory yes, games will run as fast as ether they are limited to (games with 30 FPS limits, poor console ports in other words), or the system is capable (VSync will limit it to your monitors refresh rate if on, otherwise its limitless). That said, a triple monitor setup @ 120Hz with them cards, you'll be lucky or running on low graphics settings, that kind of system do get any decent quality out of you need at least a 680 or a Crossfire / SLI system.

As for connections, only DP or DVI-D will have the bandwidth, so any one card setup will need ether two display ports or two DVI-Ds.

Sadly most cards with 2 DVI Ports only have 1DL-DVI port! (690 had 2??) then there are some with 2nd DVI only works in 2nd BIOS with DL.

It would be the easiest way to use 2x miniDP and 1xDVI.

But be Warned: to reach more than 120FPS in GOOD quality 2HD 7970 are not enough perdoemance!

As long as you use the right connectors your setup will run fine. The problem is averaging about 140 fps at 5760x1080 resolution. If you use v-sync averaging 120 fps won't do you any good since it will dip below 120 which you will experience as stuttering. The best way to get a smooth experience is to have stable fps not necessarily higher fps. I am making this point since I aspect you want 120hz panels to increase smoothness. If you still want this setup be prepared to spend a lot of money. 3x 120hz monitor + 2/3x 680 or 7970 = expensive.

If you have 120Hz panels, and you get 90-100 fps, wouldn't it still be smoother than that same fps on 60Hz panels?

Yes it's smoother.

I recommend my configuration. 3 projectors for 3840x800 @ 120Hz. No bezels and a low enough resolution that you can actually get 120 frames/sec with reasonable hardware requirements.
