Hey guys,

I am currently running my eyefinity rig with a Tridef software and ANAGLYPH glasses.... this works supprisingly well and the 3d effect is good. Only downside is the colouring being changed.

What other options do we have with eyefinity for 3D? I know some new monitors are coming out soon that allow display ports on them... but I'm guessing they'll be expensive when they first come out.

thanks

Sparx

Well HD3D will run games at 24FPS or on supported Hardware 30FPS unless you want to game at 720p then you can game at 60FPS.

It's not the best situations right now. I guess you could also buy 3 iz3d monitors, but those are also expensive.

AMD HD3D can do 1080p60 through Display Port. There are just a couple Samsung 3D monitors that support it so far.
You'll probably run into trouble trying to mix HD3D and eyefinity with the current cards though : you'll probably run into the typical V-sync issue encountered when using outputs from different types of plugs on the card (a synchronized and working V-sync is mandatory for active shutter 3D)
I think you should wait for a new 7970 custom card with 3x Display Ports... or if you already have a current 7970, maybe wait for a (yet to be heard of) DP1.2 compatible Multi-stream Display Port hub.

iZ3D monitors are really old, I wouldn't recommend them. And in order to use them, you'd need a card with SIX outputs (each iZ3D monitor requires 2 DVI inputs). There's also a big unknown about driver support. From what I heard from the iZ3D developers when they showed off their 3x iZ3D surround setup, it was a special build designed specifically for CES (2009 if I remember correctly) and they used two Matrox triple-head2go, they didn't use Eyefinity.

One setup that could work right now would be to use passive 3DTVs based on FPR (from LG). These TVs are passive so you'll still get 3D even without V-Sync. An other advantage of these is that they can also work without HD3D if the game have native interlaced 3D output or with iZ3D and DDD drivers. (it would work with any AMD card and even with Nvidia cards)

Hrrrm, I was wishing for 4 mDP and 2 mHDMI on the DCII. The problem with the DCII cards are they can't be single slot water cooled cards with that port config. Here's to hoping that the Sapphire E6 6GB is a single slot 6 mDP backplate.
