I need help!

I have a Westinghouse 32w1 screen and a evga 7800GT. I did the shortcut mod and this is what my BF2 target reads:

"C:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

When i try to start the game, it crashes back to the desktop right after the splash screen. The game is patched with the newest 1.22 patch.

Looking at your screens speccs you are not supposed to be able to play in that res if you are using VGA or DVI.

This is what the homepage says 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 720, 1366 x 768.

Take a look here: http://www.westinghousedigital.com/pc-15-2-32-lcd-tv.aspx

Edit your shortcut with a supported res and give it a try.

But the fact that the game even started up with +widescreen is surprising, itsn't it?

i'm not sure where i found the widescreen command line (i think it was from the planet battlefield forum), but i have had "+widescreen" in my line all along with no issues. per your screenshots, this apparently makes no difference.

Ok i have managed to get BF2 working pretty well on my new Dell 2405fpw at 1920x1200 using the target line thing.

I also found that changing fullscreen to widescreen did nothing btw. So the actual game looks amazing at this res. In the options i have the drop down menu for the res set at 1600x1200 (does this actually do anything?) and most of the options at medium apart from 2 which are at high.

Now the only thing i am a bit annoyed with is the text in the game, the text of who killed who and what people are saying is horrible. Its like it is at 800x600 res, same goes for the mini map looks horrible. But the text above peoples head in the game looks awesome?? So how do i get the text looking better?

Will take a screenshot when i get home from work to show what i mean.

Alright, here's the scoop and a little background.

I came from a 19" CRT run by an x800 Pro O/C'd a bit to XT PE levels. Previously, I ran BF2 at 1280x1024, 2xAA and FRAPS records a relatively constant 100 FPS (I believe BF2 caps FPS at 100, just like 1942) with v-sync off. Everything is fine and well, no performance issues.

Then, I get a VA1912wb and hook it up. So I'm running the native 1440x900 @ 60Hz, and do the command line stuff to change the resolution to match the native res. BF2 launches fine, is using the widescreen res, mind you no FOV fix, but I don't care really. (I'd like it, but I like the game more, so it won't prevent me from playing)

Here's the issue: At first, I didn't force v-sync, and my video card was still pushing 100+ FPS. When on the ground, I'd have some visual tearing, not terrible, but annoying. In the sky however, I'd get AWFUL tearing, to the point that I could barely play the game, still pushing 100+ FPS. So, I go into the CCC, force v-sync on all the time, and go back to BF2. So BF2 syncs at 60Hz and gameplay is still fine. The problem comes in when FPS dips below 60... if it gets to around 45 FPS or so, it seems to re-sync at 30. It'll stay at 30 for up to 10-15 seconds, then re-sync back to 60 FPS. When it's at 30, it becomes very noticable. 60 fps is fine for normal gameplay, 30 sucks. But for some reason, forcing v-sync On often causes the game to sync down to 30.

Is there any reason why? Is there some setting I need to change? Why is the game (or my video card?) syncing down to 30 FPS when the frequency isn't changing? And it's not that my FPS is dipping that low, I know the card can handle a constant 100+, it's that it is specifically sync'ing that low. It stays at 30 constantly for 5-15 seconds, which even if it dipped down that low, it wouldn't stay at exactly 30, it'd fluxuate... 30, 29, 32, etc.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Oh, and just for reference, I tried the same res, same AA, same Hz, v-sync on with Oblivion, Civ4, Black&White2, and they all sync properly to 60 FPS, never dip down and stick at 30 like BF2. So, I know it's BF2 doing this.

Torin, make sure any and all instances of your monitors Hz capabilities in the control panel say 60hz only.

I am quite content with just the resolution force change to 1680x1050, but my problem is I am trying to use the BF2SP64 (64 player maps in single player mode) and it forces the game to restart without the forced resolution. I have had no luck figuring out how to load a mod from the command line either.

Here is an example of how to run a mod from the command line:
"E:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

Replace the xpack with the mod you want to run. The name of the mod will be the name of the folder in the /mods directory. Then it will automatically load up that mod without having to do the activate deal and restart BF2. Hope that helps.

So what does my command line need to be for my Dell 2405fpw?

"E:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

or

"E:Program FilesEA GAMESBattlefield 2BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
