My setup consists of:

  • 2x R9 290x in CrossFire
  • 5x1 VN279Q @ 5400x1920 eyefinity. 3 are connected via Club3D MST hub, 1 is connected via DVI to HDMI, and the last one is connected via HDMI
  • Latest AMD Drivers (v 14.501.1003-141120a-177998C)

Attached is a screen shot where I'm running in 5400x1920, but for whatever reason the game runs with black bars on the sides. In addition to AC 4, the other games where this occurs are:

  • AC III
  • AC Liberation
  • AC Freedom Cry
  • Hitman: Sniper Challenge
  • Mark of the Ninja
  • Strider
  • The Walking Dead Seasons 1 & 2
  • Transistor
  • Valkyria Chronicles

I've tested other games and they don't have black bars. Some of them are:

  • Company of Heroes 2
  • Darkness II
  • Hitman: Absolution
  • Saints Row IV
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • Total War Shogun 2/Total War Rome

Is this normal? If not, what would I need to do in order to get the game to display in the areas where the black bars are?

This is relatively normal (especially games which are more or less direct ports from consoles). Sometimes there's already a fix out in the wild (check the Flawless WIdescreen topic here on WSG and WideScreenFixer). Sometimes there's other fixes available (often depicted on the game's entry here on this site). If there's no existing fix, you can request one (and sometimes someone will fix it, but don't count on it) or you may have to learn to do it yourself for more esoteric or unpopular titles.

Got it. I'll checkout that program. Is there a guide available that shows how to implement fixes?

I don't believe there's an article that addresses it in a comprehensive manner. There however is a list of hex values for common resolutions here on the site which is a step in that direction.

Just use Catalyst 14.4. You can install them in Windows 10 everything works great. I know they are old drivers but these are the only ones that dont break eyefinity in ALL your listed games.
