I loved the first two Tomb Raider games. I think I had the first one on PC, the second on the PlayStation, and the third on PC again. The 3rd was alright, but not as good as the first two. I never checked the other ones out because they apparently sucked bigtime. :(

Anyway, I'm really looking foward to this. I hope they do a good job this time. And I hope they'll not make the PC release a gimpy console port.

The first Tomb Raider games were developed by some developer called "Core", if I remember correctly. I don't know who made the last (bad) ones.

Anyone got a high res version of the trailer btw? I know GameSpot do, but it's not free. (LAME).

Yes, this does look potentially good, I'm very much hoping for Lara's return to form.

Loved the first game - the small amount of time I spent on the rest bored me shitless.

I hope this game has that grand sense of exploration of the first game.

it was archaelogical heaven, a game that lived up to the "tomb raider" title.

I remember the feeling of standing atop a huuuge cliff and stopping to look around at the beautiful, scenic & dangerous achitecture that I'd worked so hard and long (hours even) to travel through.

What an amazing sence of acheivment it was.

and of course then there's the 1 second slip that leads to Lara's high pitched squeel as she falls to her doom and wastes the last two hours of your life (and probably the next two aswell!).

Eerie caves, interesting architecture, slow & gradual yet engrossing exploration.

That's what I loved about the first game - the "tombs", the intimidating level design, the sense of achievement of scaling huge cliffs, it was slow paced - even very lonely (I loved the deep echoes of every tiny sound - it gave the whole game feeling), it was another world - tomb raider at it's purist.

The design was so good imo that the very ground you walked on was alive. the sculptured walls and huge statues. The magical level design's are the tomb's hidden treasures .

...

The sequals needent even wear the title "tomb raider". Every game since seems to be a case of "giving-the-fans-what-they-want" gone wrong.

speedboats, wetsuits, mammories....

The desperation for more action has completely railed the sequals, they have lost there identity - they have become "tits with guns".

Lara jumped the shark long ago.

Bring back the lonely freedom and intimidation of the first game, and we finally have our true sequal.

The first game was a bit rough around the edges and could certainly do with a graphical spit-shine. The blueprint is there, yet it has been ignored ever since.

I've seen a couple of exciting screenshots of this game, one's that remind me of the original, while looking so much more graphically refined.

But wait... what's that in that screenshot?... a motorbike stunt?

Oh well!

Exactly, and it's the first Lara game not developed by Eidos. (or was that the publisher :?). Anyway, it's made by another studio.

The new Tomb Raider game is being developed by Crystal Dynamics, I believe. They're resume (for better or worse) includes the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver series and Gex: Enter the Gekko. I loved the first Soul Reaver (not Legacy of Kain) game, but since then the games went downhill. the second one in particular was a real snoozer. The third was actually the sequel to the original Legacy of Kain title, and while it supported widescreen, it wasn't particularly interesting IMO.

I've played a LOT of games but outside the first demo, Ive never played a TR game. Ever. My biggest gripe: the character models stand as cartoon cutouts in comparison to the detailed backgrounds, kind of like Perfect Dark Zero (ugh).

Still, I'm trying to keep an open mind about this one....

The cool thing of the new one is that they made Lara a lot more realistic (honey, they shrunk her boobs).
Also, they finally left the "find a switch ten kilometer away and run back before it closes" concept.
All the puzzles are now in the same room and are a lot more action oriented.
I really think this game is going to be a good one.

I always loved the find a switch and run like hell concept :) It was awesome performing rolls and jumps to find the quickest path through :)

True, but for my taste it was a little too much of the same thing.
I hope they have some of the old gameplay with a lot of new gameplay in Legend.

Thank. Gawd.

Maybe there won't be as many adolescents buying it for the 'sex'...

Finally. Took 'em long enough...

Gheghe, indeed. They are really slow understanding. It took them 6 games before they realized the concept was aged.

In one of the trailors of this game, Lara's in a very revealing dress, and her boobs aren't shrunk at all - they're as big as ever.

Personally, I'd prefer her without breast implants. If I want to look at big ones, I'll watch pr0n.

There were a lot of jokes floating around when the new real life actress playing Lara Croft was announced... the computer media seemed to take great delight in the 'new Lara'...
