Thanks for the offer - I tried another executable and that one worked. :-)

I've got 1680x1050 on a 1280x1024 hud now - very nice.

I'm having mouse issues with this. It's 'off' - I have to be inches above to select things. I followed the guide and did and then redid all the 1920x1200 applicable stuff.

In case anyone else has this problem the solution was related to the hardware mouse option while using Wine.

Just reinstalled this recently and couldn't stand the wrong hud placement on 1440x900 so I messed with the GUI files and fixed it (Mostly) only bug i'm aware of is that the tooltips don't show up in the right place if at all, but It's a pretty good trade off IMO. Just Use the Widescreen patch and have it use the 1280x960 HUD, then unrar the .gui file to your override directory. Hope it helps some people enjoy a great game.

EDIT: Fixed Action Button Tooltip Placement

Can you elaborate a little on how this was done? Do you know if it's possible to perhaps change the font the game uses for conversations, or their layout?

I've wondering if there's a way to work around the text display issue with 1360x768 via editing the game files. I figure it's entirely possible that it might be as simple as switching to a smaller (or larger) font.

Sure thing, I used Kotor Tool and GFF editor to Extract the .gui file from the gui.BIF. Then Edited the Top and Left Coordinates for each piece of the HUD (Alot of work) after setting the isLocked value to -1 (0 means it is locked and it will not move even if you change the coordinates).

I'm not sure if it is possible to edit the fonts in this way as they may be hard coded into the .exe. If it is possible it would probably be in one of the Other .gui files, as i did not see any references to it in the HUD.

I am currently working on fixing the tooltips not displaying properly, although It wasn't my Edits that broke them as the Widescreen patch seems to cause this.

EDIT:Yes! Fixed the Tooltip Issue at 1440x900, Hud works Flawlessly now as far as I can tell. Link Below to Download

Thanks for pointing this out.

No Problem.
Though it should be easy to fix, The Patch tells the game to use the chosen hud gui file but not the tooltip gui file that should go along with it, it still uses the default of 640x480 so any tooltips for buttons that are currently outside that area do not show up, since the game thinks they are off the edge of the screen.

This can be corrected by editing the tooltip6x4.gui file's width and Height value to the correct resolution for your screen or by modifying the patch to redirect to the correct tooltip.gui for the chosen resolution.

This sounds like something I could track down with a HEX comparison. I will add it to my list. 8)

In the 174.74 nVidia drivers released today custom resolutions and scaling actually works!

So I setup 1706x960 as a custom resolution (in order to match well with the 1280x960 interface) with it scaling to my native res of 1360x768...and it works!

The game actually runs at that odd resolution and the missing text issue is not present. I do of course get a little bit of blurriness due to the scaling, but it's an amount that I can live with.

Incidentally, I also tried 1440x810 and 1600x900 before settling on 1706x960. 1440x810 ran and had the missing text issue, while 1600x900 ran and did not have the missing text issue (but wasn't a good match for any interface size). And we already know that 1920x1080 doesn't have the text issue

Seems like any 16:9 resolution below a certain vertical height will have the issue, while higher ones will not. I'm willing to bet this is related to the font size. The game uses the same size font regardless of resolution; so the higher the res, the smaller the font in comparison the the screen.

My guess is that the game wants to "reserve" a certain amount of space in the lower pane for displaying the text based on the pixel size. At lower resolutions the game can't reserve the necessary number of pixels because the font is too large in comparison to the available pixels. At higher resolutions there's enough pixels for the font to fit.

So the question is, could the missing text issue be fixed for lower resolutions by decreasing the font size. Malakaius if you know of a way to decrease the font size, I'd be much obliged. Getting the game to work correctly in 1360x768 would still be the optimal solution for me.

----update----

Since I learned how to edit the hud, I ended up using a custom resolution of 1530x864 instead for two reasons. First, it's a more uniform scaling ratio (1/8 upscaling from 1360x768) so it ends up looking better. Second, because the interface elements are a fixed size, the higher the resolution, the smaller the interface; I like a bigger interface so I went with a lower resolution.

1530x864 is roughly the smallest 16:9 resolution that will work without the missing text issue.
