Hi bloomstomb, I can feel your pain :( I was so deflated when I started FSX for the first time only to witness the worse slideshow ever... :(
Initially Microshaft released FSX with no support for multi core processors, so the sim would only take advantage of one of the cores in your CPU, which of course was a serious problem :) They have however patched it or service packed it but I think that their multi core support is suspect to say the least.
If you have been into the FS Series for any length of time, you have to remember that this series is always 2 years ahead of the available hardware at release which of course is amplified when trying to run at the resolutions most of us try to run here.
The good news is that the flight sim community is huge and rabid about their simming so there are tons of fixes, tweaks and the like out there so getting decent performance is just a matter of some legwork.
It's really unfortunate and dissapointing that Microsoft and other developers continue to use us, the paying public as Beta testers for supposedly finished products but I doubt that will change.
