Exclusively for the WSGF community a look at the gaming room for Florida Metrocon.
I have a mission to one day get a WSGF booth in this room to help spread the word about multi-monitor pc gaming and show the masses how awesome it is.
This year it didn't happen but I would still like to cover the event and give you a tour of the gaming room.
Lots of hardcore gamers come to the event just to go to this room and play games through the weekend, they host tournaments and imported games and its a good way to meet fellow gamers.
Max Payne 3, the third title in the Max Payne franchise, is a third-person shooter in which the player assumes the role of its titular character, Max Payne. The game features the over-the-shoulder zoom aiming and cover mechanics. However, these just serve as garnish to the game's classic run-and-gun shooting. Max Payne 3 also marks the return of bullet-time in action sequences, which the franchise is notable for. In bullet-time it is possible to see every bullet make a hole in your foes.
Yello, just posting this to remind you guys that on Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of July, Eurogamer.net and Rock Paper Shotgun are hosting a PC and Indie Games Show at the Brighton Centre in, well, Brighton UK. Both Delphium and myself will be attending the event on both days, on the Friday we'll trying to do the press thing, although since we've never done anything like this before we're not sure how well it'll go, but we are going to try none the less. On Saturday however we'll just be hanging around and having some fun, and we would love for some of you guys to come join us. We'll be wearing WSGF t-shirts to make us easily identifiable and we'll probably also use twitter or post on the site to let you know where we are if you wanna come meet up with us.
With regards to the event itself, tickets are still available for both days from their website which is linked below, at the minute they are announcing new things at the event almost daily, today they added playable versions of Far Cry 3, ShootMania & GhostRecOnline to their list which already includes the likes of Borderlands 2 and XCOM Enemy Unknown. More information and be found and tickets can be purchased from there website, which is http://www.rezzed.com
I'd been in the market for a new keyboard for a while. I had grown increasingly frustrated with my Logitech K340 wireless keyboard. While the matching Performance MX mouse was great, and I love the new Unifying Nano Receiver, I kept having issues where the keyboard didn't feel responsive. There were too many instances of mashing the health potion key in Torchlight, but no health being restored. Same thing with trying to switch weapons or cast signs in The Witcher.
Alien Breed 2: Assault, like Evolution, is an isometric shooter set on board a futuristic spacecraft. In each level, the main character Conrad is given a series of tasks such as collecting key cards, restoring power, or escorting innocents, which he must complete before finding that level's exit. Standing in his way are a variety of aliens who will attack him, usually en masse. He can also suffer damage from explosions, fires, electrical disturbances, and enemy turrets. Conrad can run and shoot in all directions, and can collect a number of different weapons and items to aid him.
Darkest Hour: Europe '44-'45 is an independently developed Western Front modification for Tripwire Interactive's acclaimed first-person shooter, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.
Darkest Hour focuses on the Allied invasion from the Normandy campaign in 1944, through the failed Operation Market Garden in Holland and beyond the Battle of the Bulge. It covers not only the intense infantry battles the campaign is so well known for, but also includes the epic large scale tank battles that took place in the later stages of the war.
Xotic is an arcade-style first-person shooter where you rack up huge scores by shooting enemies, detonating chain reactions, and discovering secret power-ups and point multipliers. Armed with a weaponized symbiotic creature called the Macroterra, you must cleanse the evil presence and re-plant the seeds of life on a planet ravaged by the minions of the Orb.
Diablo III is a dungeon crawler game that has been in development for over a decade, so its a shame it doesn't have proper multi-monitor support. That said the support that is in there is good enough, you have to use fullscreen windows mode but after that everything is correctly scaled, HUD is appropriately positioned and the game is horizontal plus. But being forced to use windows mode does mean that both Crossfire and SLI don't work, there is a hack available to force the game into fullscreen mode, they can be found here along with details of work arounds: http://www.wsgf.org/dr/diablo-iii/en
I'm sticking with the commentary for this game, still work in progress, but feel free to like or dislike my video and comment.
While this video can be watched on any screen it has been encoded to look best on a multi-monitor system, so if your running such a system, then select original quality from the drop down box and watch in fullscreen.
At CES (the last two, actually), Vizio announced and showed off their 21:9 ultra-widescreen TVs sporting a native resolution of 2560x1080. Earlier this year they released the 58", with smaller sizes coming later this year. Toshiba has just announced a 14.4" ultrawide ultrabook, with a 1792x768 resolution screen. Unfortunately, what should have been the forte of the design may be a bit lackluster, due to usage of a TN panel. However, it's cool to see another ultrawide unit coming to market.
